These are jewels lost and discovered, hidden deep under the water within the tangled seaweeds and undergrowth corals. The colour way features deep greens and warm gold. There is magic and dreaminess of secret underwater gardens and minuscule world carefully arranged on each one of a kind pieces. Collection is inspired by the Greek epic poem of Homer The Odyssey. Particularly by the scene were Odysseus meets seductive Sirens and all the challenges and adventures that he has faced trying to get home to his loved ones.
The notion of love conquering fear and hatred is so strong in this poem and that’s what inspired me to make this dreamy collection.
I would like to share a little fraction of behind the scenes and show to you what it takes to create a jewellery collection. It always starts with researching my chosen topic in depth. This collection started with thorough beach combing, collecting all sort of things washed out in the Algarve beach. The tactile aspect is very important in my jewellery so I always try to feel textures of seaweeds, wet and dry, I always try to “wear” them, put them on my hand and move them around to create interesting shapes. Also paying close attention to the colour, there are so many different tones in just what it seems simple seaweed or a little seashell.
Once back from beach-combing I go back to my sketchbook and do lots of drawing, doodling and thinking. After that follows testing ideas on wax, lots of failing, ups and downs, moving on and trying new things out. Until it’s finally refined, cast, soldered, cleaned, textured, stone set, hallmarked and it’s finally ready to be presented for my lovely followers.
This collection was started to be developed in the hot summer of 2019 while I was pregnant with my baby girl and continued to be in the making up until she turned one! Also let’s not forget to mention the Global Pandemic which in a way helped to look at everything through a different perspective. To say it was hard would be understatement – but I am very proud of this collection and hope you will enjoy it too!
